Zimbabwean international defender Munashe Garananga has finalized his transfer to FC Copenhagen, one of Denmark’s premier teams in the top-flight league. The 23-year-old has signed a four-year contract with Copenhagen after departing Belgian club KV Mechelen. The announcement of his arrival was made on Tuesday.

FC Copenhagen shared the news on their social media, stating, “FC Copenhagen has bolstered its defense with Munashe Garananga, who has signed a contract until the summer of 2028.”

Sune Smith-Nielsen, Copenhagen’s Sporting Director, expressed confidence in Garananga’s ability to strengthen their defensive lineup, saying, “We are bringing in a player who has shown outstanding performances in the Belgian league and has quickly made a name for himself.”

“The scouting team, led by Andreas Hintze, has tracked Munashe for quite some time. It became clear that we needed reinforcement in this position, and with Munashe’s signing, we have addressed that need.”

Garananga, reflecting on his new chapter, remarked, “Things have moved quickly for me in recent years, but I have always felt prepared for the next challenge. I had no hesitation in seizing this opportunity, and I’m excited to begin at F.C. Copenhagen. The club’s achievements have not escaped my notice.”

“I look forward to joining the squad and contributing to our quest for the Danish championship next season.”

Copenhagen’s head coach Jacob Neestrup praised Garananga, describing him as “a physically robust player with excellent ball skills.”

“This will significantly bolster our defensive capabilities and enhance our possession play. We eagerly anticipate integrating Munashe’s talents into the squad and getting to know him better.”

Neestrup added, “His arrival is a crucial addition to our team, providing further depth in defense.”

Garananga’s career trajectory has been on an upward trajectory since his stint at the Ubuntu Cape Town Football Academy in South Africa, followed by spells at Dynamo Brest in Belarus and Sheriff Tiraspol in Moldova. He joined Mechelen in early 2024 before completing his latest move to Copenhagen.
