According to law, drivers involved in accidents must stop and provide assistance, with severe penalties for failing to comply. National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi expressed deep concern and urged the public to come forward with any information that could aid in identifying the drivers.

During the weekend, separate incidents occurred resulting in fatalities in Harare and Mutare. One incident on Sunday claimed the life of a 38-year-old man on High Glen Road in Glen Norah, where the driver fled the scene. Another fatality, a 50-year-old man, occurred at the intersection of Makumbe Drive and Solomon Mujuru Road in Mabelreign on the same day.

A third incident occurred on Tuesday at the intersection of Robert Mugabe Road and Fifth Street in Harare, where a 38-year-old man succumbed to injuries sustained from a hit-and-run by an unidentified motorist who did not stop after the accident.

Commissioner Nyathi highlighted ongoing investigations into additional recent hit-and-run cases, including incidents on July 3 at Market Square Rank in Harare and June 30 in Glen View Area 8, both involving fatalities where drivers fled the scenes. The police stressed the importance of public cooperation to aid in these investigations.

Meanwhile, police in Bulawayo are investigating a serious hit-and-run incident on June 8 along Rangemore Road in Nkulumane, where an 85-year-old pedestrian was struck and left injured. Another incident the same day on Nketa Drive involved a motorcyclist sustaining head injuries after a collision with a motorist who fled the scene. The injured motorcyclist is currently hospitalized.

In Mutare, police are also probing a hit-and-run on June 8 along Mutare-Chimanimani Road in Sakubva, where a 47-year-old man suffered injuries to his hand after being hit by a driver who did not stop.
