Princess Anne returns home after hospitalization

Princess Anne

Princess Anne has returned home after being discharged from Southmead Hospital in Bristol, England, where she was treated for “minor injuries and concussion.” The 73-year-old royal, Anne, arrived back at her Gatcombe Park estate early Friday morning, June 28, according to reports from the BBC and Sky News.

In a statement to Sky News, her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, expressed gratitude to the medical team at Southmead Hospital for their care during Anne’s brief stay. He mentioned, “I would like to extend my warmest thanks to all the team at Southmead Hospital for their care, expertise and kindness during my wife’s short stay.”

Buckingham Palace confirmed that Princess Anne will refrain from public duties until she receives clearance from doctors. The palace initially announced her hospitalization on Monday, June 24, following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate the previous evening. A statement released by the palace stated, “The Princess Royal has sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening.” It was further clarified that her hospitalization was purely precautionary, with expectations of a full recovery.

King Charles III has been kept informed about Anne’s health and joined the royal family in sending well-wishes for her speedy recovery. Updates on her condition were provided by her husband, Tim Laurence, who assured reporters outside Southmead Hospital on Tuesday, June 25, that Anne was “recovering well” and progressing steadily.

“We are both profoundly grateful to the medical team and hospital support staff for their expert care and to the emergency services who were all so wonderful at the scene,” Laurence expressed, emphasizing their appreciation for the outpouring of supportive messages received during this time.

Princess Anne’s hospitalization necessitated the cancellation of her scheduled engagements for the week, including the U.K. state visit of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan and a planned visit to Canada. Buckingham Palace conveyed Anne’s apologies for any inconvenience caused by these cancellations, noting that the Japanese state visit would proceed as planned despite her absence from the state banquet.
