Nokwanda Mhlanga, aged 41 and residing in Upper Woodhouse, Cofimvaba, Eastern Cape, met a tragic fate on Sunday, June 23rd. She was fatally stabbed and her eyes were horrifically removed, reportedly by her boyfriend. Petros Majola, speaking on behalf of the Khula Community Project and the Mhlanga family, mentioned that Nokwanda is survived by her 14-year-old daughter, leaving her entire family deeply devastated.

“The family remains in disbelief over the incident, as they were acquainted with the suspect. The entire village is reeling from the tragedy, having known the couple,” Petros stated. He described the attack as senseless, occurring at a neighbor’s house where Nokwanda was visiting. Allegedly, he attacked her, took her life, and mutilated her. Her lifeless body was discovered in the neighbor’s yard,” he recounted. She hails from a modest background, and organizing her funeral is proving to be a challenge,” Petros added.

As arrangements for Nokwanda’s funeral are being made, the family also fears potential reprisal from the suspect. “All the family seeks is justice for Nokwanda,” he emphasized. Police spokeswoman Captain Namhla Mdleleni confirmed that a murder case has been opened and investigations are ongoing.

“One individual has been brought in for questioning,” Mdleleni noted. The family is currently grappling with financial difficulties in making funeral arrangements.
