Police in Burgersfort, Limpopo, apprehended three individuals after discovering them in possession of cannabis valued at R200,000 during Operation Vuthu Hawe. According to Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, spokesperson for Limpopo police, officers conducted an operation from Thursday evening until Friday at 8pm. During their patrol, they noticed a suspicious blue Toyota Corolla carrying three occupants, including the driver. The vehicle was subsequently stopped and searched.
“Upon searching the Toyota Corolla, officers found four bags of cannabis wrapped in masking tape, with an estimated street value of approximately R200,000,” Ledwaba reported.
He further stated, “The three suspects, aged between 25 and 37, were promptly arrested for possession of cannabis.” Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, Limpopo’s provincial police commissioner, commended the arrest and praised the officers for their ongoing vigilance and commitment to duty.
Ledwaba noted that the suspects are scheduled to appear in Burgersfort Magistrate’s Court on Monday, July 8.
In a separate incident this week, police in Free State detained two men in Bloemfontein who were allegedly transporting cannabis in a Toyota Hilux bakkie. Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli, provincial spokesperson, disclosed that the suspects, aged 23 and 25, were apprehended during a highway patrol operation on the N1 highway.
“While conducting a routine stop and search, Bloemfontein highway patrollers intercepted a white Toyota Hilux bakkie with GP registration heading towards Colesberg,” Kareli stated. “Upon inspection, police discovered 12 compressed packages of cannabis, sealed with brown cellotape, valued at approximately R1.7 million.”
Kareli confirmed that the men have been charged with dealing in cannabis, in addition to driving without a driver’s license. They are expected to appear in Springfontein Magistrate’s Court in the near future.

Businessmen Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu will spend the weekend in custody as the presiding magistrate, Mrs. Marehwanazvo Gofa, is indisposed. Their bail hearing, overseen by Harare regional magistrate Mr. Stanford Mambanje, has been postponed until Monday morning.
Chimombe and Mpofu are facing fraud charges amounting to US$7 million, which allegedly involves funds intended for the Presidential Goat Scheme.
