Harare nightclub tragedy: Man killed in stabbing incident

crime

In a tragic event at Club Royale Bar located in Harare’s Budiriro 2 suburb, Alec Ruvhere (22) and Tadiwanashe Murerwa (20) lost their lives after being fatally stabbed during an altercation. The suspect, Cogitate Ganyiwa, allegedly attacked them with an okapi knife following a dispute that began when Ruvhere accidentally stepped on Ganyiwa’s foot during a drinking session two weeks earlier.

According to eyewitnesses, the argument escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Ganyiwa drew a knife and stabbed both victims. Ruvhere succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while Murerwa, who attempted to intervene, was fatally stabbed in the stomach and tragically passed away near a nearby nightclub the following morning.

Eyewitness Wonder Svatsai expressed shock at the unfolding violence, describing the aftermath and the discovery of Murerwa’s body. The incident has sparked community concern, with residents like Misheck Kambara attributing the tragedy to widespread drug and alcohol abuse among young people, and calling for greater accountability to prevent such occurrences.

Cogitate Ganyiwa was apprehended by police the day after the incident following a search. Concerns about safety in the area have escalated, prompting calls from Murerwa’s uncle, Matthew Bunjira, for increased police presence and patrols to address the escalating violence and crime in Budiriro.
